Fellows Spotlight: Dewayne Martin

March 12, 2024 (Washington, D.C.) | Dewayne Martin, 2017 Nyah Fellow and student at Hamilton College, recently facilitated a congressional conversation in the nation’s capitol.

In his role as Youth Organizing Manager for Men4Choice, he moderated the Black Men4Choice roundtable in partnership with the Caucus on the Commission on the Social Status of Black Men & Boys and the U.S. House of Representatives Pro-Choice Caucus. The lively discussion between Black men and lawmakers centered on the importance of Black men’s allyship in the fight for reproductive justice and freedom.

The roundtable featured congressional members:

  • Rep. Ayanna Pressley (MA-07)

  • Rep. Federica Wilson (FL-24)

  • Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-12)

  • Rep. Julia Brownley (CA-26)

  • Rep. Maxwell Frost (FL-10)

  • Rep. Jonathan Jackson (IL-01)

  • Rep. Valerie Foushee (NC-04)

  • Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32)

  • Rep. Troy Carter (LA-02)

Dewayne got involved in this work via his Nyah Project mentor, Aaron Bos-Lun, who also serves as the Deputy Executive Director of Men4Choice. A Posse Scholar and 2023 Truman Scholar, he will graduate from Hamilton College in May 2024 with his Bachelor’s in Public Policy.

Keep it up, Dewayne!
