Fellows Spotlight: Amerie Jackson

Amerie Jackson (2020 Nyah Fellow) had over 15 college acceptance letters and is headed to Howard University in Washington, D.C., on a full scholarship! Her road to Howard was full of hard work and dedication knowing that scholarships would be a crucial factor in her ability to go out of state.

As a Nyah Fellow, Amerie completed Access Online and participated in live group + individual coaching, developing a scholarship execution plan to make attendance at Howard possible. In the end, she won the highly competitive Karsh STEM Scholarship which will cover all tuition, fees, room, board, and books, totaling more than $200,000 over the next 4 years.

As part of the Karsh STEM Scholars Program, she also completed a two-week intensive fellowship to Germany this summer. Amerie and the other scholars participated in seminars related to public health, the social determinants of health, STEM research, and field internships. They visited the World Health Organization in Berlin, as well as met and learned from several STEM professionals. In addition, she participated in unique cultural experiences such as visiting the Berlin Wall, Nazi concentration camps, and other memorials.

Amerie plans to be on the pre-med track in hopes to pursue her MD/PhD in Immunology.
