Two Nyah Fellows selected as 2023 OZY Genius Award Winners

Each year, OZY, a global and forward-looking media and entertainment company focused on “the New and the Next,” celebrates young geniuses who are current college students anywhere in the United States.

In partnership with AT&T #DreamInBlack, OZY announced the 12 recipients of its 2023 Genius Awards. Each young genius will receive a grant of up to $10,000 and mentoring support to pursue their genius ideas that have the potential to make real change in the world

We are thrilled that two of Nyah Project’s Global Youth Leadership Fellowship alumni were selected as 2023 OZY Genius Award Winners:

  • David Anthony Barbier, Jr. (2018 Nyah Fellow) will create a short film to encourage people, especially men, to seek help and access mental health treatment. David is a senior Posse Scholar at Syracuse University studying Television, Radio, & Film and International Relations.

  • Kenya Handfield (2020 Nyah Fellow) will expand her nonprofit platform, Project Fresh, to curb illiteracy in black and brown communities. Kenya is a sophomore Morgan Stanley HBCU Scholar at Spelman College and majoring in psychology with a minor in French.

Congratulations, David and Kenya!
